Custom Maps

Q: When can we start? 

A: Your initial deposit reserves a spot on my design calendar. You probably won't hear too much from me until we get close to your scheduled time. This allows me to dive deep and focus fully on each client, rather than juggling 26 couples at once! While certain times of the year fill up fast, I try to leave open spots here and there to accommodate last minute orders. 

Q: How does this work? 

A: When we reach your design date on my calendar, I will refer to your completed custom map questionnaire and I will create a very rough draft for you. This draft will give you a feel for the overall layout and wording of everything. If needed, we can re-work this to get it just right. Once approved, I will move onto your final map. I will calligraph and draw all of the details, then send a digital proof. Any necessary tweaks can be made. Then, if desired, color can be added digitally. 

Q: What is included in the design fee?

A: Included in the design fee is the complete design of your custom map with up to 7 locations, 2 pets, and lots of personal touches! You are welcome to add more pets or locations for an additional fee, but sometimes less is more (4-5 locations seems to be the magic number). Keeping it simple allows your most important venues as well as the calligraphy and artwork to shine through. 

Q: Can you explain the different coloring options: 

A: I have three options for adding color. Watercolor, digital, and no color. Watercolor maps are completely hand painted from the start. Simply put, you will receive a scan of my original artwork. Digitally colored maps are drawn out the old fashioned way, with pen and paper, then scanned. Color is carefully added in photoshop.  With the final option, full color is never added. The map is drawn or watercolored (your choice!) entirely by hand with the single ink or paint color of your choice. 

Q: I have my own printshop. Do I have to use yours? 

A: No, please feel free to print wherever you like! But please, make sure your printer is a good one! I suggest ordering a proof first. Prints should be crisp and beautiful, just you envisioned! Upon completion I will send you a high resolution file, all ready for print! 

Q: Do you offer different calligraphy styles? 

A: Yes! I offer three unique styles, all of which are lovingly handwritten and treated just as artwork.  Careful consideration is given to each and every letter and the way it affects the overall composition.  

Formal

Fancy and flourished, this calligraphy style is timeless.

Organic

Simple and beautiful, this style is perfect for the minimalist couple. 

Modern 

The best of both worlds, a perfect marriage of my formal and organic calligraphy. 

Q: How many revisions can I make? 

A: Typically, revisions are only necessary in the drafting phase. This phase is really important, because it's the best time to make changes! During the final stage, we normally will only need to make small tweaks. That said, I want your map to be perfect and won't stop until it's just right!
